Wet Room Refurbishment London

Wet rooms have gradually become fashionable value additions to the home. They are slowly becoming statement as they are adopted by many to be installed in their homes. But first, we must understand what a wet room is before we know its installation procedure.

What is a wet room?

A wet room is simply a bathroom where the shower is not enclosed, and the floor is even with the rest of the room. This is highly useful when it comes to conserving space, especially for small bathrooms, and at the same time creates a stylish impression. The most important benefit of a wet room is that it is very easy to clean. This is partly because water drains into an outlet created on the floor for drainage. Despite its simplicity, some people will still wonder who qualifies to have them.

Who can have a wet room?

Truth be told, anyone can have a wet room. The only difference between a wet room and a shower room is the absence of the shower screen and tray in the latter, and the presence of an open, fully tiled area in the former. However, if you have a small bathroom, you might want to add a shower screen to prevent spraying water everywhere.

Wet room plumbing

Wet room plumbing is a job for experts and professionals in the plumbing field. And as experts in the field, we at Emergency Plumber London are equal to the task. You should know that there are options to consider before removing your bath and opting for a wet room. They are;

  • Waterproofing
    This procedure is to contain the water showering that goes on in the wet room. It involves priming the floor, the walls and the wall areas surrounding the shower, and then covering them with a syrupy membrane. After which, when it sets, the room gets tiled.

    This should be done by professionals, who can recommend raising the threshold of the bathroom door by about 5mm above the floor to keep the water contained in case water fills the room.

  • Drainage of water
    This concerns the water flow. A drain is created on the floor and a gradient is made to channel water into the drain, and then it is tiled. Creating gradient can involve installing a sub-floor made from a type of plywood or installing a sloping shower former, all of which are still tiled over.

Due to the fact that wet rooms conserve space, some of them end up having a toilet included, together with a shower and basin. Basically, you can include whatever you want, provided you have space for it. It would be nice to add some personal touches based on personal taste.
