Blocked drains are one of those happenings we frequently experience in our homes and offices. Drains can get blocked either from the deposition of hairs, soap particles, food debris and the rest. This blockage makes water unable to flow out, leaving our bathrooms and sink dirty and smelly.
What do you do when your drain gets blocked? Do they work? It is true that there are only a few things you can do at home to unblock your drain; I will be sharing four of them with you. The tips I’ll be sharing here are tested, and they have been proven to work.
Here are some helpful tips you can try out next time you have a blocked drain
-
Get Some Boiling Water to Work
Heat a lot of water. When it boils, divide it into two. Pour the first portion into the drain and wait for a few seconds before pouring down the second. This hot water will help dissolve and flush down the grease and debris that was blocking your drain.
-
Use Baking Soda and Vinegar
This method is best carried out at night because it may need the whole night to give you an amazing result. Mix a ½ cup of vinegar from your pantry with a ½ cup of baking soda and pour this mixture down the drain immediately, cover the drain with its cover and allow it to stay overnight. Flush with a lot of water in the morning. Its effervescence will help burn down the grease, food particles, or whatever it is that was blocking the drain.
-
Try a Wire Hanger
Remember those old fashion wire hangers? They can help when your drain is misbehaving. Straighten one of these hangers very well and bend one of its ends to make it look like a hook. Use this bent hook-like side to drag out the materials blocking the drain. This may sound gross but trust me, you will end up having an open drain.
-
Use Coffee Grounds
The coffee ground contains an acid that fights grease and gunk. It is good at preventing future blockage of the drain. If you need to unblock your drain immediately, you may need to try another remedy.
To use this method, brew some coffee and pour the used ground into your drain and let the acid do its work. Try doing this often to prevent future blockages adequately.
